Establishment Spotlight – Fools Gold

I’ve been to Fools Gold a few times and it never fails to deliver. The same crew who brought us Alewife in LIC and The Jeffrey on the UES brought their magic to the LES. If you enjoy great food and an amazing beer selection any of their spots will have you coming back for more.

My recent trip to Fools Gold revolved around a good friends birthday and I didn’t have enough time to stop by Katz’s for a pastrami sandwich. It’s a once a year indulgence but time was of the essence. After checking out the menu I came across their Close To Katz Sandwich. Bold proclamation but I was intrigued. The waitress was willing to stand by her statement of it’s excellence so I gave it a try.  Hot pastrami with melted Gruyere cheese, sauerkraut, beer grain mustard and pickles served on sour dough bread. At $14 it is more than worth it and it’s absolutely amazing! I’ve had their pretzels in the past which are a tasty bargain and the deviled eggs are next on my list.

The decor is what I’d expect from a joint like this. The long communal wooden tables were perfect for our group. The service was amazing and I never had to wait for a beer. I usually sit at the bar for fear of slow drink orders but even on a packed Saturday night she didn’t let our group down.

Fools Gold offers up 29 rotating taps, 13 bottles and 8 cans to go along with their impressive spirits selection. You can enjoy happy hour weekdays from 11-6 with $5 select drafts, wine and whiskey and $1 oysters.

Stop by and say hi!

Cheers!

Jason
