Weekend Happenings

You made it through another week and it’s time to enjoy some of the great things our city has to offer. Here are a few events happening around the city. If you’re in the mood for a cocktail (we definitely are) visit barHappy and find drink/food specials by neighborhood.

New York Boat Show – You have until Sunday to enjoy the 110th anniversary of the New York Boat Show at the Javits Center. Even if you’re not in the market for a new nautical toy it’s an event you don’t want to miss. There’s hundreds of vendors showcasing a wide array of water toys from old-school wooden starcrafts to cigarette boats. Other activities include: A fishing seminar, free caricature paintings and a look at some of the oldest boat artifacts still in existence. You can purchase tickets here.

If you’re looking for a drink or bite to eat in the area check out these spots.

Winter Jam – (Saturday 11am start) – We all have friends who complain it’s too cold. Those same friends will complain when it’s too hot this July. Leave that/those friend(s) behind and enjoy snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding. Although it’s been a snow-less winter so far they will have the fake stuff and hot chocolate so bring a flask and enjoy these cocktails.

Sugarcube -You can’t beat free live music, film screenings and craft work shops with a view at the South Street Seaport. Enjoy it for the rest of the month and check out some of our favorite establishments while you’re down there.

The Big Cheesy – (Saturday and Sunday) – Tuesday was National Cheese Day and what better way to pay homage than hitting up the winter version of The Big Cheesy. Stop by Openhouse Gallery on Mulberry Street where tickets are $30 and taste your way through NYC’s top grilled cheese sandwiches while sampling brews from Goose Island. The event runs from noon-7pm.

We hope you have a great weekend and let us know what you did.
