Verizon Center Guide for 2013 March Madness

This years “Madness” takes place at Georgetown’s coliseum as the action for the Men’s NCAA Sweet 16 and Elite 8 will take place at the District’s very own Verizon Center. Starting on Thursday March 28th, the resurging Miami Hurricanes will take on a resilient squad in Marquette with tip-off at 7:15pm. The “Madness” continues afterwards as the #1 Indiana Hoosiers will battle against the Orange of Syracuse. At a time to be determined, the winners from each game will square off on Saturday March 30th, punching their tickets to the Final Four – one step closer to the National Championship game on April 8th in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.

For those going to the game, here are the best choices for traveling by foot before heading into the Verizon Center:

Clyde’s  Located beside the Verizon Center, at the corner you cannot miss Clyde’s – nor should you. An American bar & restaurant with a seafood specialty, Clyde’s accommodates hundreds with its five dining rooms and 4 bars. With an evening and late night Oyster Happy Hour, Clyde’s serves ALL Raw Bar items at 1/2 price. while drink specials include $4 Beers, $5 Drink Specials & $7 Martinis. Fado Irish Pub – A prized authentic Irish pub superior to most of others in DC, Fado is located just one block from the event location. Offering an array of European draft beers and the “Perfect Pint” of Guinness, Fado offers reasonable specials before tip-off and the drop of the puck. Happy Hour operates 4-7pm during the week which features  $5 seasonal pints, $5 House Red & White Wines by the Glass, and $4 food options.

Gordon Biersch – The taste of German-style brew to go along with their legendary Garlic Fries – mmmm. Sounds appealing right? One bite into their epic food items washed down with one sip of your pint and you will quickly realize you made the correct decision coming here. Satisfying visitors of the Verizon Center with all of their needs, your pregame seat awaits you.

The Green Turtle – The Burger experts, rightfully advertised, located at the corner of the Verizon Center offers some of the best beef on a bun in the District. Offering a different taste and flavor everyday of the week, for only $6.99 there may not be a better place to fill up before heading in.

Iron Horse Tap RoomAny bar offering skeeball, shuffleboard, and a top draft choices deserves recognition, not to mention their great selection of Bourbon on display. In addition to their Happy Hour, featuring $5 Rail Drinks and $2 off Draft beers until 8PM everyday, the Iron Horse offers a $5 drink special Mon-Thurs (differing each day). Just one block from the VC, the Iron Horse serves visitors with multiple bars, and is a top choice for your post-event celebrations.

Redline Gastropub – A popular destination to get all of your pre-game coverage, the Redline is a luxurious sports crazed establishment with an emphasis on quality. With the spotlight on their Table Tap system at each booth, it’s no wonder why locals and guests continue to return. Pre-game specials for weekday games include 20% off all Appetizers (excluding the Redline Sampler), $4 select Domestic Drafts, $5 Well Drinks, $6 select Wines by the Glass, $6 Sunshine on the Rocks, $6 Wild Tea Tini, and $6 Redline Lemonade.
