The District’s Best Beer Bars
What defines a “Beer Bar” and what makes it better than the rest? Quality or Quantity? Perhaps both. Whether flipping through pages of an extensive beer menu or glancing at the tap station on spotlight, the anticipated first sip certainly meets expectations, especially for those in the District.
Here are our picks for the top Beer Bars in the DC area (click bar name for more details):
The Bier Baron Tavern – A beer lovers destination, BBT features over 600 different beers with continuous rotating taps. Situated in the Downtown area, the Bier Baron is certainly no stranger to “The Best of DC” lists. Stop in for their daily 5-7pm Happy Hour and receive ANY draft beer and delicious Burger for just $10.
Churchkey – Recently voted and featured by Draft Magazine as one of the Top 100 Beer Bars in the U.S. (along side BBT), Churchkey offers over 500 different bottles and 50+ draught selections from all around the world stored and served to perfection. To go along with their spectacular food menu, this Logan Circle located bar has something for every taste bud.
Meridian Pint – Focusing on American craft beers, the Meridian Pint of Columbia Heights emphasizes greatly on what they believe to be the best beer around in the DC area – making it a prized spot to taste what DC has to offer. With 24 American flavors offered on tap and 125+ bottled spices, the Meridian Pint attracts outsiders with the brilliant taste and art of craft, that and their self serving Table Tap.
Scion Restaurant – This Dupont Circle establishment doesn’t WOW you with an extensive list and array of craft beers from all over the world, but they do have a proclaimed “obsession for craft beer.” Serving nearly 50 different styles of American craft, like the others, Scion is a great after work rendezvous with a relaxing atmosphere.
Smoke & Barrel – Remember Tom Cruise’s legendary role in “A Few Good Men?” The phrase repeats: “Unit, Core, God, Country.” I can’t help but twist and compare it to Smoke and Barrel’s motto of prioritizing – “Beer, BBQ, Bourbon” (though, in any order that you so freely choose). A prime time spot in Adams Morgan, S&B’s selection of Whiskey and Craft Beer draws in interest from many locals and visitors. Stop in on Wednesday’s for their 1/2 priced drafts during their Happy Hour from 5-8pm. Additionally, for those late night creatures on Friday and Saturday, join in on the “Craft Countdown” special starting at 10PM with $1 off drafts, $2 off at 11PM, then $3 off drafts from Midnight into the wee hours of the morning.
Which of these bars gets your vote for the Best Beer Bar in the District, unless you have another in mind?
