National Mojito Day!

Oh thank heaven for 7-Eleven!

Happy Free Slurpee Day everyone! Oh, and also, Happy National Mojito Day! There’s no better way than to cool off on a hot summer day than with a refreshing, minty Mojito. A cocktail that is far from pretentious, that simply decorates the rum inside of it.

The key to making the perfect Mojito is by vigorously muddling your mint, sugar and lime. Then all you have to do is add your rum of choice, some ice cubes, and a splash of club soda. And, voila, you have the most perfect Mojito!

The Classic Mojito

  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • ½ lime, cut into 4 wedges
  • 2 Tbsp. white sugar
  • 1 C ice cubes
  • 1 ½ oz. white rum
  • ½ C. club soda

Directions: In a sturdy glass, muddle 1 lime wedge and mint leaves. Then, add 2 more lime wedges and sugar and muddle again to release the lime juice. Fill the glass with ice, pour in the rum, and top off with some club soda. Stir, and enjoy!

Mojito Caballito

  • 6-8 fresh mint leaves
  • ¾ oz. simple syrup (1:1)
  • 1½ oz. white rum
  • ½ oz. dry vermouth
  • ¾ oz. fresh lime juice
  • 4-5 oz. club soda
  • 3-4 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Tools: muddler
  • Glass: Collins
  • Garnish: fresh mint

Directions: In a Collins glass, add the mint, syrup, and lightly muddle. Then, add the rum, lime, vermouth, and fill the glass with crushed ice. Stir until chilled. Top with soda water, add the bitters, top with some more ice and garnish.

The Green Tea Mojito

  • 2 tsp. powdered matcha green tea
  • 3 oz. hot water
  • 6 mint leaves
  • 5 tsp. fresh lime juice
  • 2 tsp. simple syrup (1:1)
  • 2 lime wedges
  • Soda water
  • Tools: heat source, mixing glass, muddler or long-handled spoon
  • Glass: Collins
  • Garnish: mint sprig

Directions: Mix matcha with hot water and stir well. Pour into a glass filled with ice. In a separate glass, muddle the mint, lime, and syrup. Pour into the glass with matcha. Squeeze in the lime juice and top with soda water. Add any ice if needed, stir, and garnish.
