Curing Cocktails

Seasons are changing, the temperatures are dropping, and the cold and flu season are on the rise. When I have a cold, nothing beats it like daily doses of vitamin C, rest, lots of water, tea, and late night cure cocktails. So, here’s two of my favorite bedtime cocktails when I’m feeling a bit under the weather:

The Hot Toddy

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • Optional: 5 cloves
  • Optional: 1 stick cinnamon
  • Optional: 1 piece star anise
  • 1 tablespoon black tea
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 ounces whiskey (or dark rum or brandy)
  • 1 wedge lemon

Directions: Combine your water and spices in a pot and bring to a boil. Add tea and steep for four minutes. Add honey and then your liquor of choice. Squeeze a lemon and enjoy!

The Brandy Sidecar

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz. lemon juice
  • 1 oz. Cointreau
  • 2 oz. Brandy
  • ice

Directions: Combine all ingredients and shake over ice.

Feel better with these curing cocktails!
