It’s Vodka Day!

Vodka is a diminutive of the Russian word voda. And voda means water. So basically the Russians are saying that vodka goes down like water, it’s clear like water, and may even be healthy like water? Some people say a jig a day keeps the doctor away!

True vodka lovers can just sip on it straight while having their meal. But for most people, vodka tastes best mixed. Here are some ridiculously good mixed drinks with the main ingredient being vodka!

The Madras

Ingredients:

  • 1 /2 oz. vodka
  • 3 oz. cranberry juice
  • 1 oz. orange juice
  • Garnish – lime wedge

Directions: Pour all of your ingredients into a highball glass with ice and stir well. Garnish with a lime wedge. Simple and refreshing!

The Godmother

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ oz. vodka
  • ½ oz. amaretto

Directions: In an old-fashioned glass, pour in ingredients with ice and stir well.

The Lemon Drop

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp white caster sugar
  • ½ lemon grated zest
  • 50ml vodka
  • 25ml triple sec
  • 25ml lemon juice
  • Handful of ice

Directions: Chill a martini glass. Mix sugar with lemon zest and set aside. Pour vodka, triple sec, lemon juice, and ice into a shaker and shake till outside is cold to the touch. Dip rim of glass in water and then dip in sugar, lemon zest mixture. Then, strain drink into glass, and enjoy!

Vesper

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz. Gin
  • 1 oz. vodka
  • 1⁄2 o.z Lillet blanc aperitif
  • Lemon peel for garnish

Directions: Add all the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice and stir. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Twist a lemon peel over drink to let out oils, and toss it in!

The Classic Dirty Martini

Ingredients:

  • 2 1⁄2 oz. vodka
  • 1⁄2 oz. dry vermouth
  • 1⁄2 oz. olive brine

Directions: Add all the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice and stir. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with olives!
