National Whiskey Sour Day

Saturday, August 25th, 2018 is National Whiskey Sour Day! The Whiskey Sour is a mixed drink that contains whiskey (usually bourbon), lemon juice, lime juice, and sugar served on the rocks. You could also spruce it up by adding an egg white – called the Boston Sour. Or, you could request a red wine floater which makes it a New York Sour. I’ll take one of each! Thanks!

Enjoy these recipes below for a proper way to celebrate the holiday:

Whiskey Sour

  • 3/4 C. whiskey
  • 1/2 C. freshly squeezed lemon juice (3 lemons)
  • 1/2 C. freshly squeezed lime juice (4 limes)
  • 2/3 C. sugar syrup

Directions: Combine the whiskey, lemon juice, lime juice and syrup in a shaker filled halfway with ice. Shake well, and serve over ice with a maraschino cherry.

The Boston Sour

  • 2 oz. bourbon whiskey
  • 1 oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 3/4 oz. simple syrup
  • 1 egg white from a small to medium egg
  • Ice
  • 1 maraschino cherry

Directions: Combine the bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white in a cocktail shaker and dry shake the contents. Add ice and shake again. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry.

New York Sour

  • 2 oz. rye whiskey
  • ¾ oz. simple syrup
  • 1 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 oz. Malbec, or another dry red wine

Directions: Add all ingredients except for the wine to a shaker and shake vigorously. Add ice and shake again for 30 seconds. Strain into a glass with ice and top with floater of wine.
