National Whiskey Sour Day
Saturday, August 25th, 2018 is National Whiskey Sour Day! The Whiskey Sour is a mixed drink that contains whiskey (usually bourbon), lemon juice, lime juice, and sugar served on the rocks. You could also spruce it up by adding an egg white – called the Boston Sour. Or, you could request a red wine floater which makes it a New York Sour. I’ll take one of each! Thanks!
Enjoy these recipes below for a proper way to celebrate the holiday:
- 3/4 C. whiskey
- 1/2 C. freshly squeezed lemon juice (3 lemons)
- 1/2 C. freshly squeezed lime juice (4 limes)
- 2/3 C. sugar syrup
Directions: Combine the whiskey, lemon juice, lime juice and syrup in a shaker filled halfway with ice. Shake well, and serve over ice with a maraschino cherry.
The Boston Sour
- 2 oz. bourbon whiskey
- 1 oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 3/4 oz. simple syrup
- 1 egg white from a small to medium egg
- 1 maraschino cherry
Directions: Combine the bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white in a cocktail shaker and dry shake the contents. Add ice and shake again. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry.
New York Sour
- 2 oz. rye whiskey
- ¾ oz. simple syrup
- 1 oz. fresh lemon juice
- 1 egg white
- 1 oz. Malbec, or another dry red wine
Directions: Add all ingredients except for the wine to a shaker and shake vigorously. Add ice and shake again for 30 seconds. Strain into a glass with ice and top with floater of wine.
Hope you enjoy these delicious sours!
