Hanging at the Lake
Dining with a view can come in different forms. Some choose to dine high above mere mortals, the higher the better with the skyline as their dining backdrop. For those with a different take on an “amazing view” fear not we have you covered. Here are some great spots to drink, dine or just chill by the water. Hit pause on the stopwatch and let time slip away as others are rowing by, all you need is that drink in your hand.
Abel’s On The Lake – I feel Abel’s was designed with a beer aficionados afterlife in mind; Over 60 beers on tap and you can practically dip your toes in the water while sipping on a frosty one. Feel free to dock your boat (when you can get a spot) and enjoy the activities around you as rowboats pass you by. If you’re like me (non boat owner) don’t worry, they like having us there just as much and we like saving money on gas. Adel’s is a great place for weekend brunch and they offer Happy Hour Monday-Friday from 4-6.
Hula Hut – Mexican food with a surfer twist or “Tiki-Mex” as they refer to it is the cuisine found at this lake front haunt. The Hula Hut is a great place to enjoy the views and scene without breaking the bank. A favorite to the college crowd this place can get busy on weekends but fear not, there are enough tiki torches to light the way for everybody in one of their 3 grass-thatched bars. Lined with bamboo and sounds from traditional Hawaiian music to surfer tracks fill the air and takes you to a destination that would typically cost a lot more than the price of cold drink.
Marker 10 – Marker 10 is a lot more than a hotel bar inside the Hyatt. Slip into this upbeat, contemporary lounge for hand-crafted cocktails, microbrews, drafts, wine and a delectable menu that’s sure to tempt even the pickiest of palates. With unparalleled views of Lady Bird Lake and downtown Austin and a Sunday-Thursday Happy Hour from 4-7 featuring $3 Drafts, $5 House Wines and ½ off appetizers there is nothing but a good time to be had here.
Roaring Fork – Roaring Fork in North Austin is a great spot for a leisurely lunch, Sunday brunch or a cocktail. Their open-air patio with panoramic views of Quarry Lake are just one of the many reasons to stop by. Their daily Happy Hour is another with $2 off all drinks and $5 frozen Margaritas from 4-7. Roaring Fork is the kind of place where you will feel comfortable bringing your grandmother for dinner or that nervous first date.
Ski Shores Cafe – Ski Shores is a convenient spot to dock after a day on the boat. There isn’t anything fancy about this place but let’s face it, you’re probably in board shorts and a tank top with SPF 40 on. Be prepared for a wait but that shouldn’t be anything an ice-cold beer won’t cure. You can find live music on weekends and they even have a movie night which is great for the kids, s’mores and all.
Steiner Ranch Steakhouse – Steiner Ranch offers old world charm, a fire pit, an exceptional wine list and 3 floors for dining. There isn’t a bad view in the house with a wall of windows and open air space to watch the sunset over the lake. Once home to rodeo horses and cattle, the Steiner Ranch Steakhouse is a great spot to take folks from out of town looking for a bit of history and a view with their meal.
The Oasis – Relax, put your feet up and enjoy whatever drink your heart desires while perched 450 above Lake Travis. The Oasis has plenty of umbrellas to keep you in the shade if their “Oasis Summer Sipper” isn’t enough. Food is available but this place is all about the view.
