Celebrate National Pickle Day with Picklebacks!
November 14th, 2016 is National Pickle Day! So let us celebrate with a couple of picklebacks…preferably spicy picklebacks, my favorite! Originating in Brooklyn, bartender Reggie Cunningham poured his first pickleback in 2006 at the Bushwick Country Club. A shot of whiskey followed by a shot of pickle brine, the pickleback took New York by storm soon after. Bars started making house made pickle brines, spicy pickle brines, and even pickle cocktails.

One of my favorite places to get picklebacks is in Chinatown, New York City. Whiskey Tavern offers a large variety of whiskeys and whiskey flights, tavern cocktails, picklebacks (regular or spicy), beer pints and pitchers, and wine & champagne. Their philosophy is “well poured drinks, reasonable prices, good music, a comfortable setting and great service.” Whiskey Tavern has sister bars in the Lower East Side (Whiskey Town), Brooklyn (Whiskey Brooklyn), (The Whiskey Annex), (The Little Whiskey), and (The Big Whiskey). They also have a curated liquor store, The Whiskey Shop, with over 100 varieties of whiskey and select spirits. So cheers to pickles! Have fun slinging back some delicious picklebacks.
