Upcoming D.C. Holiday Wine Tastings

Thanks to our Trend Spotter Jessica for these great tips. If your friends are interested in any of these events, a simple way to organize everyone is to create an outing on barHappy. Enjoy!

It’s Holiday tasting time in D.C. Many retailers are gearing up for the big season by hosting large tastings of their perfectly paired wines for the holidays.

Friday, November 9, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Swirl and Sip is a new, locally-based online wine retailer focusing on extraordinary value.

Luckily they are based here in the D.C. area and we can participate in their Grand Tasting event on November 9 at the Whittemore House in Dupont Circle. So what does their Grand Tasting consist of? “Over 40 premium wines from prestigious wine appellations” says their website. They will also showcase gourmet food selections and wine experts who know these wines inside and out. Ticket prices are $59 but I happen to know a special discount code 😉 Shhh…use WHITTEMORE20 to get $20 off your price!! Also, with the purchase of a ticket you receive $10 credit towards your first purchase. What a great way to Try before you Buy! Tickets on sale now but hurry, this event is TODAY! I’ll be there!

I get it, so you may be busy on a Friday night. There are plenty more holiday tasting options around town in the coming weeks.

Sunday, November 10, 1:00-5:00 p.m.

On Saturday, join Sommelier Andrew Stover at Cleveland Park Wines for a Turkey Day Road Trip Tasting. If you haven’t met Andrew yet, you’re missing out. He focuses on the weird and small regions in the US. Yes wine is made in Arizona, Michigan and more! This tasting is FREE and from 1-5pm on Saturday. The wines that will be featured pair perfectly with that Thanksgiving meal and are Arizona Stronghold TAZI White Blend, Route 99W Pinot Blanc, Oregon, Chateau Grand Traverse Gamay Noir, Michigan (Gamay is the grape in Beaujolais which is the most popular French wine around Thanksgiving) and finally Arizona Stronghold MANGUS Red Blend.

Wednesday, November 14, 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Next Wednesday, Bell Wine Shop on M St is having their annual Thanksgiving/Holiday Wine Grand Tasting. If you haven’t been to a Grand Tasting at Bell’s you have NO idea what you’re missing. Every 2nd Wednesday of the month, Bell’s hosts a tasting that features over 40 wines and the cost? Only $10!! It’s absolutely the best happy hour option in town! This month they are focusing on the holiday wine selection and featuring 45 wines. Some wineries that will be included are Yalumba Y Series, Kim Crawford, Duckhorn, Rodney Strong, Sean Minor, Justin and more! I’ll see you there!

As the holiday season progresses, I’m sure more themed tastings will pop up around the area. Stay tuned for more to come. In the meantime, get out there and taste some great holiday-pairing wines!
